AV1 Decoder Performance Optimization and Device Test

Share another slide deck Ronald Bultje and Kaustubh Patankar presented today at the SPIE conference. This is a collaborative work done by VideoLAN, Two Orioles, Meta and Ittiam in the last year. We want to check the actual performance of software AV1 decoder on real Android devices. In this talk, Ronald explained the magic why Dav1d performance is so superior from the low level coding tool optimization to high level threading framework. Kaustubh presented the actual performance data on 61 selected Android phones from low end to high end. Test data shows that it is possible to achieve 720p30 real time playback on most Android phones. For mid range to high end phones, it is possible to achieve 1080p30 real time playback. We believe AV1 is ready to be deployed widely on mobile platforms. #aom #av1
