Now that dav1d is available at no charge, you can finally get the decoder you need to jumpstart AV1 platform support. dav1d is a new, open-source AV1 decoder built in collaboration by Two Orioles, VideoLabs and MultiCoreWare. It has the speed, efficiency and visual quality you’ve wanted. That’s why dav1d is now included in Chrome M74, Firefox 67, VLC 3.0.5, FFmpeg 4.2, with more to come.
3 to 5 times faster than other AV1 decoders
When you consider reduced runtime and CPU usage, dav1d brings a whole new level of speed to AV1 decoding. Single-threaded, dav1d is 2 times faster on PCs than other AV1 decoders, and 50% faster on mobile devices. Multi-threaded, the speed difference is even greater: dav1d is 3 to 5 times faster on PCs, and 2 to 3 times faster on mobile devices.
3 TIMES SMALLER
Not only is dav1d faster, it’s way more efficient in such crucial areas as code size, binary size and memory usage. For example, dav1d’s code size is 3 times smaller than other AV1 decoders, and its binary size is also dramatically reduced (from 2.9MB on another AV1 decoder to 0.9MB for dav1d on a typical desktop build). That makes it more practical to include dav1d in mobile or desktop apps.
Fabulously free
As an open-source product with a 2-clause BSD license, dav1d is available at absolutely no charge for use in any way. So you can explore its possibilities and see how dav1d can jumpstart the AV1 platform for you.
